We have an exciting opportunity for a Practice Manager - India Group to join our Marketing team, based in A&O Shearman’s Singapore Office.

What you will do

Join our dynamic India Practice Group as the Practice Area Manager and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our India-focused business development activity and legal work. You will report to the ASEAN Market Lead and work closely on a day-to-day basis with the partners heading our India Group.

This is an exciting opportunity for a driven, entrepreneurial person with an understanding of the India market to take on a leadership role that blends business development, practice management, and cross-border collaboration. You’ll work at the heart of our India Group, connecting teams across Singapore, London, and beyond, and making a real impact on our strategy and client relationships.
  • Global Reach, India Focus: Collaborate with leading lawyers and clients across continents, while staying deeply connected to the fast-evolving India market.
  • Strategic Impact: Work directly with the India Group Co-Chairs and core partners to set and execute the Group’s business development vision.
  • Leadership & Visibility: Be a senior member of the India Group support team, with a seat at the table for major decisions and initiatives.
  • Innovation & Growth: Drive new client opportunities, lead high-profile events, and help shape the firm’s response to regulatory changes in India.
  • Community & Purpose: Engage with various stakeholders, lead pro bono and social impact initiatives, and support the next generation of legal talent.
  • Lead and Coordinate: Manage India Group meetings, set agendas, and ensure seamless collaboration across offices and practice areas.
  • Business Development: Partner with senior lawyers to craft and execute strategic business and client development plans. Identify new market opportunities and help draft, build and win major pitches.
  • Relationship Management: Build and nurture relationships with top independent law firms in India and coordinate joint initiatives.
  • Marketing & Profile Raising: Help development a communications plan on an annual basis and oversee India-focused marketing campaigns, our social media profile, PR activities, and thought leadership. Shape the Group’s presence at major conferences and events.
  • Financial & Strategic Reporting: Track and report on the India Group’s financial performance, client activity, and market trends.
  • Event Leadership: Plan and deliver high-impact client seminars, roundtables, and flagship events, working with the Events and BD teams.
  • Talent & Community Engagement: Support recruitment, student engagement, and pro bono and social impact projects. Liaise with various stakeholders on regulatory developments.
  • Internal Communications: Foster a culture of knowledge-sharing and collaboration, ensuring the Group stays ahead of market developments.
  • Recruitment Strategy: Assist as needed with the annual graduate recruitment initiative, as well as with lateral recruitment at various levels, as may be required from time to time.


What you will have
  • 3-6 years’ experience in business development and marketing and an understanding of both transactional and disputes work.
  • Spoken and written Hindi is desirable
  • A strong track record in the India market preferred; previous work experience at a law firm in either business development or as a lawyer would be a plus.
  • A collaborative, entrepreneurial mindset and a passion for building relationships and driving change.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to work with senior partners and clients across cultures and time zones.
  • A strategic thinker who’s also happy to roll up their sleeves and get things done.
  • Passionate about India’s legal and business landscape, with a strong network and a finger on the pulse of market trends.
  • High attention to detail and strong client focus.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and deliver under pressure, prioritise different tasks, and manage multiple ongoing projects.
  • Ability to plan ahead, anticipate workload; balance conflicting priorities; and does not over-commit the team or him/herself – always manages expectations.
