We have an exciting opportunity for an
Attorney Recruitment Manager to join our
Human Resources team. The successful candidate can be based in A&O Shearman's Houston, Menlo Park, or New York offices.
Human Resources team The Human Resources team implements and supports the firm’s HR strategy and provides a first-class level of service to the business for all strategic and operational aspects of HR.
What you will doThe Attorney Recruitment Manager reports to the Director of Attorney Recruitment. The Manager will assist with the management of lateral recruitment for all US offices, Toronto, and São Paulo, including devising search strategies, managing relationships with legal search firms, pre-screening resumes and overseeing the coordination of interviews, offers and other feedback. The Manager is expected to think strategically about recruiting initiatives and how to help the firm achieve its goals.
- Manage lateral associate and counsel hiring for the US offices, Toronto, and São Paulo.
- Establish and maintain relationships with legal search firms and obtain and analyze information regarding status of job market.
- Oversee all drafting of position descriptions and engagement with candidates.
- Lead candidate attraction efforts by developing and implementing innovative sourcing and marketing strategies to build engaged and diverse talent pools.
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to identify innovative sourcing methods and expand the talent pool.
- Build expertise in the key markets that the team is hiring into to be able to quickly and credibly source top talent for our local offices.
- Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in recruitment and talent acquisition to ensure the firm remains competitive.
- Review candidate resumes, ensure circulation of appropriate resumes to practice group leaders; provide and obtain feedback regarding candidates; and oversee screening process.
- Manage lateral interview process, including but not limited to scheduling, greeting and communicating with candidates. Facilitate decision making process and follow-up, including offer letters and all procedures required before the start of a new lawyer.
- Act as a liaison to lateral candidates, as needed, through the interviewing process.
- Analyze recruiting data and results, compare to strategy and targets, communicate status to Director of Attorney & Staff Recruitment and firm management and determine resulting action plan.
- With the Director of Attorney & Staff Recruitment, help to develop and mentor junior members of the wider US Recruitment Team.
What you will have- Strong ability to balance independent thinking and collaboration and engagement with lawyers and business professionals.
- A creative problem solver, with a high level of self-confidence, maturity and excellent judgement.
- Demonstrated direct sourcing experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to maintain highly confidential and sensitive information.
- Exceptionally strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize a number of responsibilities, while maintaining accuracy.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills – including the ability to tailor the communication style to a specific audience.
- Strong client service orientation.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- Minimum of six years' of prior legal recruiting experience at a law firm.
- Knowledge of the legal market and current industry and a willingness to learn.

This role is open to our New York, Houston, and Menlo Park offices. For individuals assigned to or hired for this opportunity in New York, the estimated annualized base salary range for this position is $150,000 - $175,000. For individuals assigned to or hired for this opportunity in Houston, the estimated annualized base salary range for this position is $130,000 - $155,000. For individuals assigned to or hired for this opportunity in Menlo Park, the estimated annualized base salary range for this position is $163,000 - $185,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on the overall qualifications of the individual applicant for the position and other job-related factors permitted by law.
