Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Management Accountant to join our Finance team, based in A&O Shearman’s Dubai Office. This opportunity is available on a 9-month fixed term contract.

Finance team – Dubai

The Finance team is responsible for the monthly and annual reporting of the results of the Middle East offices to the Group Financial Control in the UK for inclusion within the consolidated results of the firm.

What you will do

The primary objective of this role is to ensure the timely delivery of accurate, high-quality financial information to both internal and external stakeholders, while providing comprehensive accounting, reporting, and financial support to the Middle East Finance team.

Key responsibilities include preparing and processing general ledger transactions, supporting UAE statutory reporting and compliance requirements, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records. The role also involves performing balance sheet and ledger reconciliations, conducting analytical reviews, preparing account analyses, processing accounting entries, and producing financial reports to support effective financial management and decision-making.

Management Accounts Duties:
  • Participate in the preparation and submission of UAE VAT filings, support the In-Country Value (ICV) recertification process, and assist with ad hoc statutory reporting requirements, including government surveys and compliance submissions.
  • Act as the Client Money Manager, ensuring compliance with firm policies, regulatory requirements, and client money procedures.
  • Support with month-end accounting processes, including the preparation and posting of journal entries, execution of month-end reports, review of financial accounts, and investigation of material variances.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for general ledger account queries and provide timely support to stakeholders.
  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of the general ledger through ongoing monitoring, reconciliation, and housekeeping activities.
  • Support the annual budgeting process, as well as periodic reforecasting exercises as required.
  • Play a key role in ensuring a smooth year-end audit process, including the preparation of audit schedules, liaison with external auditors, and timely resolution of audit queries.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with budget holders, business managers, and members of the Middle East Finance team.
  • Liaise with the firm's banking partners regarding incoming and outgoing payment matters, bank guarantee application, banking mandates, and Know Your Customer (KYC) documentation requirements.
  • Serve as the local point of contact for queries relating to accounts payable and business expense claims, working closely with the Belfast Shared Services Team, which is responsible for the day-to-day processing and administration of these functions.
  • Contribute to finance transformation initiatives and other ad hoc projects as required.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree educated and professionally qualified accountant.
  • Previous experience within a professional services or professional practice environment is advantageous.
  • Strong numeracy, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively in both working from home or in the office.
