Job description

We are recruiting for a Senior Legal Technology Product Owner to join our Global Technology team in London.

At A&O Shearman, our Legal Technology team sits at the intersection of law, technology, and innovation, partnering closely with lawyers to design, deliver and evolve the tools that support our clients and legal teams around the world.

What you will do

Reporting to the Head of Legal Technology, the Senior Manager Product Owner you will work closely with lawyers, technology teams and delivery partners, you'll take ownership of a portfolio of legal technology products, guiding them through their entire lifecycle from initial concept and business case through development, adoption, and enhancement. You'll be responsible for driving the vision and roadmap for a diverse suite of Legal Technology products, balancing innovation with operational excellence. Working closely with stakeholders across the firm, you'll identify opportunities to enhance the technology landscape, evaluate emerging solutions, and deliver products that have a meaningful impact on how legal services are delivered.

As part of our global Technology Delivery function, you'll help deliver innovative, business-focused solutions that empower our fee earners, enhance client service, and support the firm's continued growth and transformation. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex business challenges, influencing senior stakeholders, and driving product success.

As a Senior Legal Technology Product Owner, you'll act as the bridge between technology and the business, ensuring our legal technology solutions continue to evolve in line with the needs of our lawyers and clients.

  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of legal technology solutions, from idea generation and proof of concept through to delivery, adoption, enhancement and retirement.
  • Build trusted relationships with lawyers and business stakeholders, developing a deep understanding of their challenges, priorities and opportunities.
  • Determine the lifecycle stage of each product and make recommendations for enhancements or retirement, as necessary developing a deep understanding of each application's features, functionality, and potential use cases within the firm
  • Serve as the go-to expert for all practice technology tools, providing guidance and support to stakeholders collaborating with cross-functional teams to prioritise and allocate resources effectively
  • Direct various resources, including development teams, support teams and subject matter experts, in the management and enhancement of legal technology products
  • Manage competing priorities across multiple products and stakeholder groups, making informed decisions that balance business needs and technical considerations.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement within the legal technology team, encouraging feedback, experimentation, and learning
  • Regularly evaluate the toolkit to ensure it remains aligned with the firm's requirements, proposing changes to optimise the technology landscape.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analyses for existing and potential toolkit components, ensuring fiscal responsibility and return on investment
  • Champion adoption and engagement across the firm, helping users maximise value from legal technology solutions.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive support model for all practice technology tools, encompassing vendor, Legal Technology team, and IT support
  • Facilitate the upskilling of the Legal Technology team to provide effective in-house support.
  • Engage in change and adoption initiatives alongside various teams including Practice Transformation, Legal Process Improvement and Regional Legal Tech Engagement, to ensure smooth transitions and user acceptance of new technologies.

What you will have
  • Experience in Product Ownership, Product Management or Legal Technology leadership role within a global organization.
  • Proven expertise managing enterprise SaaS applications and technology products, ideally within legal, professional services or other highly regulated environments.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the confidence to work directly with senior lawyers, business leaders, and technical teams.
  • The ability to translate complex business, legal and technical requirements into practical, user-focused solutions.
  • Experience defining product strategies, managing roadmaps, and delivering change through agile and iterative delivery methodologies.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the credibility and influencing ability to build trusted relationships at all levels of an organisation.
  • A strategic and analytical mindset, using data, insight, and market trends to drive decision-making and identify opportunities for innovation.
  • Strong leadership capabilities, with experience guiding cross-functional teams and driving successful outcomes through collaboration rather than direct management.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills, with the confidence to engage senior leaders.
  • The ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative and take ownership in a fast-paced environment.
