Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior risk and compliance manager (m/f/d) to join the A&O Shearman Paris office.

What you will do

As a Senior Risk & Compliance and In-House Lawyer, you will play a key role in managing a diverse range of internal matters for the Paris office, driven by statutory obligations. Your primary focus will be on professional conduct rules, anti-money-laundering compliance, and coordination of data protection matters. Additionally, you will provide In-House Legal support for the Paris office. Beyond assisting our Paris office, you will be welcomed into a top‑tier, pan‑European team of lawyers, offering both intellectual stimulation and meaningful opportunities for growth.

The role and responsibilities include:

Risk & Compliance

  • Serve as the first point of contact for all risk and compliance matters in the Paris office.

  • Collaborate with global, European, and local internal departments to discuss the latest developments and serve as the primary escalation point for legal guidance in Paris.

  • Engage directly in operational tasks alongside the risk & compliance teams in the Firm’s European offices.

  • Manage and coordinate Risk & Compliance requirements in the Paris office.

  • Conduct internal training sessions.

  • Interpret and implement legal requirements, ensuring compliance with the latest standards and identifying current and potential future risks.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement and innovation of our processes and strategies.

In-House

  • Prepare guidance and support to the local partnership.

  • Draft and review engagement letters with local Avocats.

  • Prepare and review NDAs.

  • Respond to audit questionnaires from clients.

  • Address client onboarding and compliance-related queries.

  • Prepare statements on behalf of the Paris office.

  • Draft and review agreements with suppliers and intra-group entities.

What you will have

  • Bar-qualified lawyer (m/f/d) admitted to practice law in France.

  • At least 3 years of experience in Risk & Compliance within a law firm or similar professional services environment.

  • Experience with national and international legal frameworks.

  • Strong analytical skills, strategic vision, and a high degree of responsibility.

  • Excellent communication skills and a proven team player.

  • Fluent in French and English, both spoken and written.

What we can offer you

  • Our Culture: Become part of a committed pan-European team that values open communication, mutual support and offers interesting, varied, and challenging tasks in a collegial working atmosphere.

  • Key Role: Take on a pivotal position in Risk & Compliance and In-House matters for the Paris office.

  • Compensation and Benefits: We offer attractive salary and benefits package as well as long-term opportunities for professional development.

  • Innovation and Ownership: Bring your ideas to the table and actively shape the future with us.

  • Meaningful Challenges: Tackle highly relevant legal matters in a dynamic and stimulating environment.

  • Professional Development: Benefit from comprehensive internal trainings and opportunities for career advancement.

  • Flexible, Modern Work Environment: Enjoy the advantages of working in a large, forward-thinking law firm with state-of-the-art facilities. Benefit from predictable working hours and the possibility of hybrid working that permits up to two remote workdays per week.
