We are seeking talented lawyers with four or more years’ post-qualification experience in restructuring and insolvency law to join our panel for assignments with A&O Shearman and leading clients. The interim roles we see require lawyers who can hit the ground running on complex mandates from day one - whether cross-border restructurings or focused advisory work, we have opportunities to match your ambitions.
EXAMPLES OF RECENT OPPORTUNITIES
The nature and scope of engagements vary, but the following are illustrative of the types of assignments that might be available through Peerpoint.
- Legal Counsel role within a bank’s impaired assets team. Providing legal advice across the full spectrum of distressed lending, corporate restructuring, distressed scenarios, insolvency procedures, and security enforcement, acting as a strategic partner to the business (including credit risk) to protect the bank’s interests, maximise recovery, and mitigate legal/reputational risk.
- Desk lawyer role within the leveraged finance/credit team of a credit hedge fund. Focused on reviewing credit documentation, identifying LME risk, and analysing structural vulnerabilities. Significant element of restructuring-related work expected.
- Senior Associate role within the A&O Shearman restructuring practice. Working as an integrated member of a leading team which specialises in cross-border restructurings, insolvencies and special situations, advising clients on contingency planning, debt restructuring, special situation credit solutions, reschedulings, distressed acquisitions/sales, credit bidding, formal insolvency proceedings, out-of-court refinancings, liability management exercises and distressed debt trading.
We welcome applications from lawyers who demonstrate the following:
- a minimum of four years’ post-qualification experience in restructuring and insolvency, including at least two years in private practice at a law firm recognised as leading in this field (e.g. Chambers UK Band 1–2 or Legal 500 Tier 1–2);
- ideally recent in-house legal experience at a leading financial services institution (directly or as a secondee);
- a desire to take ownership of their career and responsibility for their own professional development and network, proactively making use of any support and resources available;
- an understanding of the personal and financial factors that you need to consider when commencing a career as a legal consultant and how it differs from permanent employment;
- a commitment to building a positive and productive relationship with Peerpoint, including having a transparent, open and responsive style of communication;
- a consultant mindset, including a highly professional, flexible and adaptable outlook and approach;
- an ability to make effective transitions into new environments and be motivated to deliver an excellent standard of service to each client;
- excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to professionally deal with stakeholders at all levels, building strong relationships internally and externally;
- a resilient, autonomous and highly credible approach, with exemplary commercial/business acumen and client service ethic;
- proven project management skills; and
- a practising certificate (or equivalent) which entitles them to practise as a lawyer in the UK.
Due to the nature of the relationship between Peerpoint and our legal consultants, we are not able to sponsor visas. Applicants are therefore required to have a right to reside and work in the UK.
As a result of the high volume of applications we receive, we are unable to provide individual feedback at the application stage.
