Job description

Overview
The purpose of the PSL role at A&O Shearman Bratislava is to develop and co-ordinate the knowledge management and training support offered to lawyers and clients of the firm's Slovak practice. The role is primarily to provide support to lawyers in the Bratislava office. The Bratislava PSL would work closely with the local team, both partners and other fee earners, as well as know-how, training, library services and marketing support areas in the firm.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

1. KNOW-HOW (INTERNAL)
1.1 Know-how Projects: Templates / SFPs
- Work with partners and other fee earners to identify their core precedent requirements and needs
- Produce (including review and revise drafts prepared by junior lawyers) some of the templates for relevant partner's final review.
- Review products prepared by other fee earners, and provide comments as appropriate, before converting them into templates.
- Inform fee earners of new product developments (SFPs/templates etc).

1.2 Current Awareness
- Monitor and evaluate news and information on legal and commercial developments.
- Provide fee earners with accurate and timely information and commentary on legal and commercial developments.

1.3 Know-How System; Intranet
- Manage, promote and develop Know-How and Know-How systems. Maintain the Know-How system including adding and profiling new entries and removing out of date entries.
- Build up and maintain the local Know-How materials and files.
- Enhance and develop new mechanisms for capturing, sharing and communicating Know How.

1.4 Fee Earner Enquiries
- Provide assistance to lawyers by identifying helpful transaction precedents.
- Answer day to day fee earner enquiries. Assist fee earners in conducting legal research by pointing them in the right direction of suitable resources.
- Assist with Know-How enquiries from PSLs and lawyers in other offices.

1.5 Global Know-How
- Monitor and evaluate know-how development in other offices that may be relevant to local practice.
- Attend regular conference calls with global/regional PSLs.

2. KNOW HOW (CLIENT INITIATIVES)
- Identify developments of particular interest to clients and produce bulletins and alerts with commentary and analysis and assist other fee earners with the production and review of bulletins.
- Identify topics of interest to clients and produce brochures and papers and assist other fee earners with the production and review of brochures.
- Work with the marketing team on strengthening relationships with key clients through the development of new on-line and traditional value added services.

3. TRAINING
- Work with local partners, and other lawyers to develop annual regular in-house professional practice training. Manage the programme and ensure annual completion of the core legal skills training programme.
- Ensure that training materials (seminar handouts, power point documents etc) are added to the Know-How system in a timely manner.
- Monitor training sessions given in London and arrange for videos/other materials where appropriate.
- Give training on use of the Know-How systems including induction training to new joiners.

4. OTHERS
- Library – Manage library budgets, including online material subscriptions and book purchasing. Implement trials of online materials for fee earners and select the proper online materials based on fee earners’ requests. Answer day to day fee earners library inquiries. Assist fee earners on co-ordinating with London library with book borrowing and information searching.
- Ad hoc projects – provide support on departmental, office or firm-wide projects that either do not fall clearly within another department's competence or where the PSL can add value or expertise (e.g. reviewing regional risk policies; engagement letter updates etc.)
- Pro Bono – provide support as may be necessary.
