We have an exciting opportunity for a Marketing Team Lead to join our Marketing Solutions team, based in A&O Shearman's Belfast office.

Our business development, marketing and communication teams contribute to the setting and achievement of the firm's business objectives, which includes supporting our partners and associates in their pursuit of becoming our clients' trusted advisers, building and maintaining long-lasting, deep institutional client relationships, winning new clients, increasing the visibility of the firm globally, and positioning the firm as the thought leader and most advanced law firm among the global elite law firms. The function works as one team across the globe with very close collaboration between the central teams and professionals supporting offices, practice groups, sectors and clients.

What you will do

The Marketing Team Lead is responsible for managing the Marketing Solutions Team, overseeing the delivery of all core marketing and business development activities, and ensuring alignment with the firm’s strategic objectives. This role combines hands-on execution of tasks with leadership responsibilities, including team management, project oversight, and process improvement. The Marketing Team Lead acts as the primary point of contact for senior stakeholders, driving the continuous development of the team and the effectiveness of marketing initiatives.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop the Marketing Solutions Team, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture.
  • Allocate tasks, set priorities, and monitor team performance to ensure the delivery of all MST activities.
  • Manage absence approvals, arranging holiday cover where necessary, and managing sickness absence.
  • Manage recruitment and selection of new team members, create induction schedules, and take responsibility for effective onboarding.
  • Provide regular feedback, coaching, and support to team members, identifying training and development needs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders across the firm.
  • Oversee and ensure the accuracy and completeness of all MST activities.
  • Ensure the highest standards of data integrity and compliance across all marketing databases.
  • Oversee the delivery of ad-hoc support to marketing, BD, and comms teams, ensuring the effective coordination and execution of marketing projects and initiatives.
  • Manage key stakeholder relationships, ensuring consistent communication and alignment with business goals.
  • Create, build and refine processes to drive efficiency and enhance team performance.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for complex issues and provide expert guidance to the team and stakeholders.
What you will have

This is an opportunity to develop line management capabilities in addition to a technical Marketing role. The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes and skills:
  • Extensive experience in marketing or business development within a professional services environment, with proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Experience of demonstrable day‑to‑day team leadership, including setting team priorities and supporting the development of team members’ skills and capabilities.
  • Advanced organisational and project management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple complex initiatives simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience engaging with senior stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities, with a track record of driving process improvements and innovation.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, email marketing platforms (preferably Vuture), and CRM/contact management systems.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive team culture and supporting the professional development of team members.
  • Demonstrable empathy and emotional intelligence.
  • A hunger to learn and take on all tasks that will aid in the development of line management responsibilities.
